Rationale for Module |
Events are unique experiences that should not only
satisfy but impress the participants. In order to achieve this, event managers need to be able to design and stage the intended experience in a way that anticipates the motives, needs and expectations of key stakeholders. This involves understanding both creative and technical principles and instruments, as well as the ability to relate design to the strategic purpose of the event. According to a survey by the Europäisches Institut für TagungsWirtschaft, 93% of European event industry experts consider professional event staging to be an increasingly important success factor. The successful running of an event, including the successful implementation of the event design, depends on effective logistics management to ensure that the ‘product’, the customer and the necessary facilities are brought together and organised in a way that allows the event to run smoothly and according to plan. This involves forward planning, on-site management and the shutdown process, the principles of which need to be understood by all those involved in organising and managing events. The module builds on the knowledge and skills developed in particular in the Level 1 module ‘Introduction to Event Management’ as well as ‘Business Context & Functions’ and ‘Accounting’. At Level 2 it is complemented by the generic module ‘Project Management & Professional Communication’ and the pathway-specific modules ‘Managing Event Operations’, ‘Event Marketing’ and ‘Law for Event & Cultural Managers’, each of which contributes a specific knowledge and skills set. The module serves as a basis for the Level 3 modules ‘Meetings, Trade Fair and Exhibitions Management’, ‘Event Impact Analysis’ and ‘Critical Issues’. |
