Rationale for Module |
Law is an integral, but also highly complex, part
of the business environment, providing a framework for the creation and regulation of business activities. The ability to weigh up the legal consequences of a particular action or contract is crucial for commercial decision-making and central to the assessment and reduction of risk. This module examines the legal issues involved in business activities generally, as well as in a marketing and media context, so that students are aware of the rights and obligations placed on various stakeholders. As legal regulations and their interpretation differ between different local and national jurisdictions, the module sensibilises students to those aspects that require special attention and indicates where professional legal advice is appropriate. Because of the complexity of the issues, focus has to be given to the standards and regulations in Germany, but, where possible, international aspects via comparisons and examples will also be taken into account. The module builds on students’ knowledge of the German civil and commercial code (contract and company law) acquired at Level 1, and provides the knowledge of legal principles and applications required in the pathway modules at Levels 2 and 3. |
